There are various tests that can be
undertaken to diagnose diabetes. The most common ones are:
Urine Sugar Test:: When
blood levels of glucose are very high, some of the glucose may show
up in the urine, indicating a diabetic condition
Urine Ketone Test: Ketones
(beta-hydroxybutyric acid, acetoacetic acid, and acetone) are the
end-product of rapid or excessive fatty-acid breakdown.
Fatty-acid release from adipose tissue (body fat) is stimulated by a
number of hormones including glucagon. Increased levels may,
therefore, indicate diabetes.
Oral Glucose Tolerance Test:
This is a measure of the body’s ability to use glucose. It is
commonly used to test for gestational diabetes. The test involves
drinking a sweet liquid containing glucose. A blood sample is
collected one hour later to test the blood glucose level.
Blood Glucose Test: This
measures the amount of glucose in the blood. Results are usually
available within 1-2 hours.
